I know the lyrics to the song but before the guitar intro starts I can hear something already playing in the background of the song and I dont know what it is. It sounds like its on a TV or radio.

I HAVE EVERY PINK FLOYD ALBUM AND PEOPLE HAVE ASKED THIS QUESTION BEFORE:

THIS IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE ON THE ALBUM OR WHAT I'VE ALWAYS THAT THE PEOPLE SAY...THOUGH IT COULD BE A BACKWARDS RECORDING ALSO...

(Radio fade in from when "Have A Cigar" preludes into "Wish You Were Here"...and needle dropping onto an old turntable)
Man: Discipline... It remains necessary!
Woman: What's the matter with you Derek this is all nonsense.
Man: I don't know.
Woman: Well, what is it?
Man: Nothing. I'm sure of it.
(Fading marching band sound to guitar intro)

NOTE TO OTHERS: HE'S NOT ASKING FOR THE LYRICS TO THE SONG, HE'S ASKING ABOUT THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE TWO PEOPLE DURING THE FIRST TEN SECONDS OF THE SONG BEFORE THE GUITAR STARTS PLAYING!!!

Gilmour performed the intro on a twelve-string guitar, processed to sound like it was playing through an old transistor radio, and then overdubbed a fuller-sounding acoustic guitar solo. This passage was mixed to sound as though the guitarist was sitting in a room, playing along with the radio; it also contains a barely-audible whine that slowly changes pitch, as if receiving AM radio interference.

During the opening solo, about 0:43 into the recording, a small cough can be heard, followed by a faint sniff at 0:48. It is often rumored that at the time of recording, David Gilmour's smoking habit caused him to cough during the solo and that he quit after hearing it played back during mixing; this was initially denied on Gilmour's official website in 2006 but the denial was removed shortly after it first appeared; it is also possible that the cough and sniff were intentionally or accidentally recorded and left in to bring character to the song.

This is interesting, I have also done some digging up to try and find this. However, the best I could get is that it is 1. not meant to be heard and 2. is the switching through various radio stations

I am not sure, but if you want to do something crazy, play "Dark Side of the Moon" at the same time as you watch the original "Wizard of Oz." Start the music when the MGM lion roars. MUTE THE MOVIE. The music matches exactly to what is going on. It's WILD.

On my version it sounds like a lot of strong wind blowing...

The lyrics:

Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
running over the same old ground. What have we found?
The same old fears,
wish you were here.
