Believe it or not, he will be an adult some day. Why would he need a baby name because he's a child? Isn't it better to have a name a little mature for a child than an adult with a childish sounding name?

It doesn't really rhyme with anything. How is he going to get picked on with that name? My only concern is that it's a little old fashioned.

Ernest is a little boy on an adoption site that I inquired on. He has siblings and they fit the profile of who we're looking for. I've gotten a lot of negitivity for wanting to change kids' names in the past and my husband is pretty much against it. Ernest isn't something I'd name a kid. I'm just wondering if it would "grow on me" and if it's a name I can feel positive about? I think that's how to word what I'm thinking.

I don't particularly like the name, but I definately feel that it will grow on you. I know a girl that named her child Oscar (I know, right... LoL) but it totally grew on me! LoL Good Luck with the adoption! I wish you the best!
Don't worry about some of these rude people!!!

I dated an Ernest. It was great! The name wasn't a problem...but I used to hate it before I met three different Ernest's that were cute. According to Ernest M. --- it's a little tough to get the "t" on the end...like a speach problem thing...But hey, he was sexy! Some other girl will say the same thing about this little boy one day...Worry about other stuff, like will I have health insurance on my child, will he do good in school, will I make this child a completed person or will he always miss something I just can't see. I was raised by someone besides my parents and the missing thing wasn't the parents, but my new home everytime they took me for a summer visit. I fit better in the new situation than the old "real" family! Good luck with the things that matter!

Don't really care for the name Ernest. At least not for a first name. The boy is 5 so I'm guessing you are changing his original name for some reason...or he already has the name and yiou are just looking for opinions. :) If you are changing his name...why not use Ernest for a middle name if you want to use it. There are many other better names that are not 'child' sounding that could be used with it.
David Ernest
Robert Ernest
James Ernest
Matthew Ernest
Michael Ernest
Trevor Ernest
Charles Ernest
Devin Ernest
Tanner Ernest

"I've gotten a lot of negitivity for wanting to change kids' names in the past and my husband is pretty much against it."
There're good reasons for the negativity. Sorry. Your husband's right on this one.
Ernest isn't misspelled, trendy-wendy junk like half the names on here; people certainly won't blink at it when he's an adult. 'Ern' is sort of cute for a little boy.
Being adopted at five would be hard enough without somebody changing your name. Get a pet if you're stuck on naming something yourself. Really, do you want to hear nothing but "Don't call me that name! My REAL name is Ernest!" in a few years? It would be awfully hard to argue with, for one.

Ernest is such an adult name not a kids name. Some of the names that people are still naming dont think about what that kid has to deal with the name they have. It is not a bad name just more of a grown up name.

if his name is Ernest don't change it. He was given that name for a reason. It may be some of his biological family's name. If you can adopt him you should no matter what his name is, b/c it is only a name. Just think of how much you want a child.
Good luck with the adoption.

I like Ernest, but I'm afraid he will be made fun of. I hope you don't take it the wrong way, I'm trying to be honest. If he has a best friend named Bert, they will be Bert and Ernie. Ernie isn't a totally bad nick name, you could call him that while he's a kid. Hope that helps, good luck and God bless.

Ernest sounds a little funky and geeky. There are better names: like Patrick, Chris, Nick. etc....
