I thought the playstation 3 was not supposed to have a region lock? Yet i put in my japanese ps2 game it reads it just fine, as a ps2 format disc but then i get an error message that i cannot play it due to region lock restrictions. Slightly confused here.

ps3 GAMES do not have region code. blu-ray movies still do. So, I don't think it would be a surprise that ps2 games will not work on region coded ps3 consoles.

Don't get PS3!!! get a Wii! PS3's are broken, and here's why:

1. They break easily.
2. There IS a region lock.
3. Sony is losing money with the PS3's, and therefore will not be able to help you should anything go wrong.
4. They are way too much money. Sony is testing the waters to see is gullible people will pay up. If that happens, the 8th generation of consoles prices will shoot up to $1500!!! I dont wanna pay that for a console!
5.There are no good games for it.
6. It's not backwards compatible because it's missing the expensive Emotion chip.

PS2 video games are area locked. DVD's are area locked. 15% of Blu-ray video clips are area locked. Any PS3 sport can play on any PS3. Your PS2 sport will favor to come back from the area your PS3 is from, meaning an NTSC PS3 can no longer play a buddy PS2 sport, and vice versa.
