If 1.20 was a 20% profit, the original cost was 1.00.
If 1.20 was a 20% loss, then:
(original cost) * 80% = 1.20
(original cost) =1.20 * 100/80
(original cost) = 1.50

So the profit on the first (.20) is less than the loss of the second (.30). They DO NOT CANCEL EACH OTHER OUT.
The answer is d.

broke even, cause if he sold them both at 1.20, that means the profit of 20% would equal the same as the loss of 20% and so they would cancel out and he would be back at 0

1.20/1.20 = 1.00 .20 profit
1.20/.8 = 1.50 .30 loss
Think about it. a $1.00 pipe at 20% profit goes for $1.20
A $1.50 pipe at 20% loss is also $1.20
Definitely D.
d

a) broke even
20% and 20% cancel each other out.
1.20 x 2 = 2.40 / 5 = .48 = 20%
+ .48 - .48= 0

Take the factors interior the difficulty, like (35,7). 35 is your x cost and seven is your y cost, as coordinates are examine as (x,y) . Take those and positioned them in selection to the x and y in y=kx. it extremely is going to appear as if: 35=ok(7) Then, resolve for ok by dividing by 7 on the two aspects: 35/7=7k/7 The 7 cancels out leaving you with ok, and the different section divides by 7 to get 5, consequently making: ok=5, it extremely is your answer it extremely is it. Now in basic terms prepare that to the different issues. they're the comparable.

im not good at math, but i wanna improve my logical thinking! hah...

so 2.40...

he broke even cuz if one gain and the other loss the same amount... it cancels themselves out and just ... well, didn't gain anything

so liek.. 1.20*.2 = 1.44 and 1.20*.8=.96

1.44+.96= 2.40

he broke even.. nothing happened.
