I had a job interview at an open house yesterday. The gentleman who interviewed me seemed very impressed, took lots of notes, and we had an easy going interview. He told me that I should get a call back by the end of the week. He even recommended that i go for the higher paying position stating that it would be a better fit and also the company needed people to fill the position urgently. So did I get the job? I know he said that someone should call back but I can't help but worry about a job that could change my career and financial situation. Also should I send a thank you letter via email or would it be better by mail? Thanks a bunch!

First, about that thank you-- definitely via regular mail. It is much more professional and thoughtful. If you send an email, there is no telling how soon it will be read.

As for the job interview. You should be somewhat confident, based on what you have said here. The interviewer mentioned that you were qualified for an even higher level job than the one you applied for, and also, he indicated that you possess what the company is looking for.

If you are as close as it seems to getting the job, a sincere thank you note may be just what you need to get a quick response. Don't worry if it does take time to get that call back. It probably just means that the employer has to finish interviews and send out rejection letters to applicants who didn't succeed. They are obligated to keeping appointments with interviewees, even if they feel like they want to hire you.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

sounds like you probably have the job. As far as the thank you note this is really not necessary. Thank them when you get the job by giving 100 percent.
