I wonder if people in Alaska (either locals or visitors) have to wait until late Spring to start doing anything outdoors. When do bricklayers or other construction workers can do work???

This March is cold so far, but generally the days are long and sunny. We have over 10 hours of sunlight already! The air temp can still be chilly, it really depends on the part of Alaska you are in, and the weather patterns at the time. This winter we have had temps into the high 50s around Palmer, and temps below zero in Anchorage, well below zero in Palmer, Wasilla and to the north. In the interiour parts of the state it was -40 below F just this week. In Southeast Alaska they rarely even get snow, mostly rain. Alaska is a huge state, so we have HUGE temperature differences. There can be a spread of almost 100 degrees in different regions of Alaska on the same day!

We ski, downhill and x-country/skate skiing, we snowboard, snowmachine, all kinds of activities. You just have to dress for the weather, you don't go out in zero weather and expect to be comfortable in jeans. (Alot of people try).

We don't wait till spring... We tent up the foundations and away we go... We work year round. This year has been a bit cold for instance, right now, the wind is howling and we are experiencing sub-zero wind chills in the Anchorage area, it is just plain cold else where.

As far as doing anything... We snowmobile, ski, snowshoe, ice fish, the list goes on. Never let the weather dictate what you want to do.
