I use Matte Acrylic Medium for collage and mixed media work - it makes a great glue which dries within minutes, but leaves time to manipulate objects.

You can soak the string completely, wipe off the excess and place it where you like. The matte finish doesn't show once it dries on surfaces such as the illustration board you're going to use, which is a good choice. For more texture, you could use matte gel. Both wash up with soap & water like Elmer's, but won't ever turn yellow.

Have fun!

I think the cold press illustration board will work, but spot check on a small piece before you do this. Rubber cement is instant contact but yellows with age. you can rub it off with a ball of rubber cement fondly referred to as a rubber cement booger. but i don/t recommend rubber cement. Just depends on how fast and how long you want this to last. Sobo or Aleen's tacky glue is good. Luckily you are gluing on a white board so the glue won/t look so shiny. Elmer's would probably work as well. Personally i use lots of Elmer's but something like this i would go with the tacky glues. They stick a little faster. Try using the tip to place the glue and toothpicks to move the black string around with. Hope this helps!
