I'll be 22 this year, I just don't want to go because I feel it will be a VERY uncomfortable situation for me. Besides being nervous/scared, I feel fine, so I guess I really just don't see a point in it all? Im not on birth control obviously because i'm a lesbian and as far as sex goes, i'm usually a giver and not a receiver so....maybe I'm just indecisive...

It's always a good idea to start somewhere. Whatever your sexual preference, pap smears can detect cervical cancer and the doctor will usually do a manual breast exam to check for any unusual lumps. It's just a good pro-active measure to keep yourself healthy. I don't think any of us look forward to having our feet up in the stirrups but it is a neccessary evil. Maybe you can ask around and see if anyone you know is particulary comfortable with a certain doctor. Good luck!

Pap smears ARE generally uncomfortable, but they literally only take 30 seconds. As a woman, you NEED to get a pap smear at least every 2 years and even more often if you are on the pill.

A lot of vaginal infections and STD's don't have bothersome symptoms. Better safe than sorry.

It's not that bad, really. Get your partner to come with you into the room. Have a chat while it's being done and before you know it, it'll be over.

The CDC reccomends that all women recieve pap smears within 2 years of becoming sexually active, or at age 21, whatever comes first. Pap smears test for cervical cellular changes, AKA hpv and cervical cancer.

You don't need to have intercourse to get HPV. All you need is skin-to-skin contact with another infected person. So being a lesbian, or a giver really doesn't make any difference.

You should get one. "Feeling fine," doesn't make one ounce of difference. I doubt anyone can feel atypical cellular production occuring...

Just a little fact to chew on: 3 out of 4 American will get genital HPV in their lifetime, and 25% of precancerous lesions will develop into full blown cervical cancer. But then again, it is your choice.

Having habitual actual examinations is a element of being an grownup. once you're a sexually lively lady, then you definately owe it to your self to be certain a wellbeing care provider consistent with annum for those verify ups. additionally i'd question what style of birthcontrol you're utilising. while you're actually not having habitual gyn tests, how are you procuring birthcontrol? would desire to taking your outfits off for a Dr. be any much less embrassing than disrobing for a guy? seek for a girl gynecologist. the determination is yours at 22 you're an grownup no you will make you circulate to the Dr in spite of the undeniable fact that undesirable issues take place to good human beings.

Well if you don't care if you get cervical cancer, don't do it. It's unlikely you'll have a problem. But it's possible even if you haven't had heterosexual sex, and cervical cancer is completely curable if you have regular PAPs and catch it early.

So, you just need to decide if you're willing to take the risk of looking like an idiot and dying of a completely preventable cancer...

Nobody likes getting them. It's just something you put up with for your own good. They will also be able to catch other problems during your PAP, and even lesbians can be affected by STDs.
