i took computer programing in middle school. nothing major just little stuff. having said that, i know that it takes a fair amount of script, and therfore a fair amount of time to make a small program.i'm not sure exactly how viruses are made, but i'm pretty sure it takes a long time and a lot of typing, and i'm just wondering what kind of geek has that much time on their hands? and... do you think the protection services, like norton are in on it so thay can keep selling their product? just like to hear what you think.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are. I trusted Norton for years, and had the free AVG as my back up until I ran Invisus Direct on my computer and found that I had over 70 hackers on my computer. I would not be surprised AT ALL...if there is a link.

Who has the time? Some people do.

Others do it on their spare time and will wait weeks in order to develop, test, and deploy their virus. But to tell you the truth, many viruses out there are built on top of each other. A.K.A. they piggy back on the bigger ones that work.

If you ever look at viruses, you might see VIRUSNAME.a or VIRUSNAME.c those a/b/c/... are different variants made either by the original author or another person.

But the bigger ones are usually made by people with lots of time on their hands and who want to exploit security holes without warning people.

People who want to learn MAKE time. People with motivations for attaining success beyond instant gratification find time for these things.

Your question shows a complete lack of motivation. In 20 years when you are wondering why you still live in your parents basement ask yourself how you had so much time to do nothing that was actually worthwhile.

For your next question, I suggest asking how to get vomit stains out of carpet. I'm guessing you're going to need it.
