You need several things. The first things are obvious, which are the account number and name of the person you are sending the money to. The name must be exactly as it is on the account receiving the wire, or it may be rejected. Second, you need the SWIFT code of the bank you are sending the money to, which normally consists of a series of numbers and letters. You'll also need the exact name of the bank. If you don't have this, call the bank or have your recepient call them. If you don't have this number at all, the money won't go anywhere. Third, you need to find out if you need an intermediary bank. Your wire would go to this bank first, and then be routed to your final destination. Most wires work without the intermediary bank, but some need it. Check with your recepient bank. Fourth, check with the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control to see if Jordan (or any other country) is on their Lists of Sanctioned Countries. The wire will be blocked if it is, and Jordan is not. Next, check to see if the name of the recipient is on the List of Specially Designated Nationals, which is also available from OFAC. Your wire will be blocked if they are on this list.
After you have all of this information, you can go to your bank and initiate the wire. They will most likely have some kind of form for you to fill out. Make sure the funds in your account have been in there for several days, or give them cash right away.
If you don't live in the United States, your country may still have some lists similar to the OFAC lists mentioned above, but the same information will be required. Western Union probably does not have any offices in Jordan to receive your transfer, which could be why it isn't available.
