hi. I love turtles. I have 2 painted's. Turtleas take a lot of work. My question to you is your turtle inside or outside? If it is outside, & its cold where you live--turtles hibernate. I live in chicago, cold winters, so my turtles live outside for summer months, & move indoors for winter months. this means I do not hibernate them. They live in a pond, but i did not have sufficient depth for them nor mud for them to hibernate in. If they were in nature or in your backyard, example a pond, they would find mud & go deep & hibernate. So i brought mine in they are not hibernating. BUT w/ hibernation they wont move or eat obviously. If theyar indoors & not moving & eating & shedding i would be concerned. You should go to some turtle sites to help you gather some info. www.turtlesale.com is a GREAT site. they have a message board, everyone w/ turtles, all giving tips, advice, you can post questions, really great. Shedding to a point is normal. Both my turtles have shed at times. They will shed from not having the right amount of sunlight & nutrtion reasons. It is winter, so obviously not much sunlight. & u say not eating. You need to get some bulbs if you dont have them on your turtles. Go to your local pet store. They sell UVA/UVB bulbs, your turtle needs that! Also heat bulbs, night bulbs, all sorts of things. But get thee bulb, put it on them. Also they sell calcium blocks, toss one of those in the aquarium, pond, wherever they live--if its in water. You should also consult a vet. Add what type or turtle, & where u live, its set up, etc. Well that is a bit of info--so good luck. It is probably ok--good luck!

If your turtle is not moving or eating, try boosting tank temps. They should normally be 75-80F, and if the turtle is ill, boost it another 5 degrees.

Hmm, I thought their shells grew with them. I think your turtle is very sick, maybe dead.
