Ok so my neighbor calls to talk to me and I had to cut it short because I was trying to get my daughter to bed because she has school and I was trying to comfort her because she was crying about her dad.(long story) Well the neighbor comes over and keeps knocking on the door for about 10 minutes, I did not answer it. I have to get up and get my daughter off to school and I have to drive an hour and a half to the Dr's. I am not a mean person but I did not need or want any company at that time. She knows that my daughter has school and I have a Dr appt. Anyway do you think I am mean for not answering? If so how should I have handled the situation? Thanks

How should I explain to her why I didn't answer?

Thanks for understanding I feel so bad for doing that but it just wasn't the right time to have company and yes I told her on the phone that I had to go put my daughter to bed and that if I had time I would call her back.

I think you did fine. I don't know what you told her on the phone about having to go, but all you needed to say was, "I'm sorry, now is not a good time for me. Can we get together another time?" If you had already told her something to that effect on the phone, I see no reason to answer the door and tell her again - she already knew that you were busy. Just be polite but firm with her. If she asks why you did not answer, tell her the truth - I was busy taking care of my daughter and getting ready for the day.

Your neighbor was behaving very rudely and inconsiderately. Your disrespect is very understandable. However, a more direct approach, instead of ignoring her, would probably have been better. You should have answered the door, told her you were busy, and asked her to come back later.
To be intentionally rude would have been vengeful, but you do have the right to insist that she respect your needs.

Just tell her you didn't know who was at the door, and that you were putting your daughter to bed, and so you didn't answer. And no your not mean, you had things to do, and needed your rest.

nope i dont think it was mean!! becouse it was your house and your hours and if you wanted someone over you would of invited them.. And if they can't understand that you have a child that goes to school, and a Dr's. Appt. or anything like that then their not a good friend ( no offence) for sopporting your habits..Just go and talk to them tell them your sorry but it wasn't your falt, but you had other things to do...

Of course it wasn't mean you had your hands tide up at the moment. You should go over or when you see her, and tell her you was really busy at the moment and couldnt come to the door for that reason.

tell her exactly what you told us, maybe she was persistent because she was worried about you and trying to be a good friend, next time instead of cutting her short, explain you are busy, need to be alone but that you are ok

i dont think that you were mean by not answering..... you already had to cut it short.... i assume you told your neighbor you didnt have time to talk for long...... how many times do you need to tell them you are busy? just apologize next time you talk to them, if they are a good friend they will totally understand and shouldnt be upset........i wouldnt sweat it....

I would do the same thing, and tell her the truth. After all, SHE was the rude one when she kept bothering you!
