One of the best. When I taught fifth grade in the inner city, I read "The Tell Tale Heart" to my class. I wanted them to hear a scary story for Halloween, but I wanted them to hear a classic. They loved it! So much in fact that one of the boys stole my anthology! I wish that someone would take his stories and rewrite them in today's English, but stay as close to the original as possible so that they aren't so hard to understand. They wanted me to read all of them to them, and they would have loved them, too, but the English was just too hard for them to get.

Yes I do think he is. He lead you imagination. He described it and your own imagination takes over. He was the first one to write horror and suspense. His descriptions weren't graphic but how he wrote it you ould picture it in your mind being graphic. H echose words that helped formed images in your head. He helped your imagination to run away with you. The story that's even better with suspense is the Tell Tale Heart. His words in the story make you believe that your heart is beating (probably your own).

I think EAP uses suspense masterfully, but I feel he is more the master of the macabre than just suspense.
