I'm a second gen. Korean and I honestly do not feel that I'm being treated differently than anybody else. Some important issues might be that because Asians tend to be the second highest demographic next to Caucasians in universities, I feel like a lot of colleges are trying to set a quota on how many Asians they accept. Affirmative action helps Asians in my opinion because a lot of universities are trying to diversify their student bodies more and more nowadays. Other than this issue of affirmative action, I don't think there really are any hardships for most Asian-Americans other than perhaps the difficulty of assimilating American culture. My parents, for example, do not speak English very well. My mom is better than my dad though and she can do her job just fine at the hospital. My dad, who doesn't speak English very well, had a very hard time finding a job in America even though he majored in Electrical Engineering whilst he was living in Korea. I feel like this difficulty of adapting to the American way of life is the main problem that Asian-Americans face today. For us second generation people though, I don't feel that there is any real issue that confronts us. I personally do not feel like I have a Korean identity per se, but then again I don't really have any Korean friends to speak Korean too nor do I feel the need to learn more about Korean culture. I feel like I am an American for sure.
