It depends on what software you're using. Many programs accept the following ALT sequence for typing ñ:

Alt-0-2-4-1

What that means is, to get the n with a tilde over it, you hold down the Alt key. While holding it down continuously, you type 0, 2, 4, and 1. Then you let go of the Alt key and the letter should appear.

Other accented letters often used in Spanish:

á - Alt-0-2-2-5
é - Alt-0-2-3-3
í - Alt-0-2-3-7
ó - Alt-0-2-4-3
ú - Alt-0-2-5-0
ü - Alt-0-2-5-2

If you're using Microsoft Word, another way to get these letters is to click on the Insert menu, pick Symbol, and work your way through the menu until you find them.

Still another way is to find a webpage that has those letters on it (like this one), and copy-and-paste them into your document.

To type the special punctuation characters, you need to hold down on the Alt key while you strike the appropriate punctuation mark. On some keyboards, only one of the two Alt keys will work for this.

¡ = Alt (hold down) + !
¿ = Alt (hold down) + ?

Using Cryptic Codes

á = Alt + 0225
é = Alt + 0233
í = Alt + 0237
ó = Alt + 0243
ú = Alt + 0250
ñ = Alt + 0241
ü = Alt + 0252

¡ = Alt + 0161
¿ Alt + 0191

When using this utterly out-dated system, there are two important things to remember. First, when you type in the numbers, some keyboards require that you use the "numeric keypad" located to the side, rather than the numbers along the top. Second, on some keyboards, only one of the two Alt keys will work for this.

Mac Users

To get accents on the Mac, hold down the Option key, and while holding it down, type the letter e; then release those keys and type the letter that you want the accent to appear on:

á = Opt + e, then a
é = Opt + e, then e
í = Opt + e, then i
ó = Opt + e, then o
ú = Opt + e, then u

For the ñ, hold down the Option key while you type the n; release and type n again.

ñ = Opt + n, then n

To place the diaeresis over the u, hold down the Option key while pressing the u key; release and type u again.

ü = Opt + u, then u

The inverted punctuation marks are achieved as follows:

¡ = Opt + 1
¿ Opt + shift + ?

I don't know if you can configure your keyboard so that it has the Spanish alphabet. If so, it's simple.

The ñ is to the right of the l, where the semicolon is found on the English keyboard.

Further to the right is the accent mark. You have to type in the accent prior to typing in the vowel.

¿ and ¡ are in the top row, ro the right of the apostrophe (after the zero).

i exploit a trilingual keyboard. bypass to regulate Panel, close by/Language Settings, set up the Spanish keyboard. then you fairly can basically press [ and the vowel, and it will come out accented. Then when you're performed, you are able to click the language bar on the real/backside of your demonstrate to alter it back to English. you may additionally basically press Alt Shift to alter between them as quickly as you have put in the different keyboard. it fairly is rather clever in case you may desire to alter between the languages plenty. a pair different clever Spanish keys (as quickly as you have put in it). Press ; for ñ Press = for ¿ (and shift = for ¡) would be unable to think of of the rest.
