I am a Jersey girl but recently to near my kids- they are grown. I am 45 this year and in addition to this huge move the area is a more ethnic community than I am used to. Just wondering who might relate to this

Hey, I can relate. I left the area in which I was born and raised and continued to live most of my life. Semi-rural, smaller close-knit town where neighbors help each other and kids grow up together. I moved halfway across the country to a large, busy, crowded urban city where the ethic makeup was vastly different from what I was used to. It took me about 6 months to settle in, another year to really get to know the area, and after I got a job and found places I felt comfortable (church, community groups, volunteer opportunities) I started setting down a few roots. I lived there for 7 years and had to move again. I miss it, but at least this new place is similar and now I know how to adapt. Change isn't easy, but you'll be OK after awhile. Good luck.

A more ethnic community is wonderful, you can enjoy the diversity and learn from it too. Get involved in your community, be a contribution.

You moved near your kids. I hope that doesn't mean you are going to expect them to entertain you every waking minute. That will get old for them rather quickly. Have your own life and make friends, get involved, look for how you can help others.

If this place is accepting, you will do well if you are accepting. If this is a place that is not, it will make it more difficult. I moved to a small town with small minds, it was very, very painful for me. I enjoy contributing to my community and interacting with others (no matter their age, ethic background, etc.). Needless to say, I am moving to a place that will value and accept my contributions.

Dear Cyn,The truth sadly is that you may never truly settle in. It really depends on how you feel about your new environment and if you approve of it or not. Was it your choice to move? Why did you move? I would love to discuss this with you further, please contact me at PinDrop783@yahoo.com or you can instant message me at PinDrop783@hotmail.com Please send me an email, I look forward to hearing from you.

It will take 6 months to a year to get used to it. You have to get familiar with your surroundings so that you feel TOTALLY at home.
