Most doctors will not send you to the hospital until you are 5 cm dilated or your water breaks. With my 2nd child I was in full blown labor, but only dialted 3 cm, I was sent home and went back to the hospital the very next morning at 7am, and was at
5 cm and during the exam my water broke. It was 8 hours later that I gave birth.

Typically under 4 cm is considered "early labor", 4 cm is considered "active labor" but if you are dilated to that and no contracting regularly, they would probably send you home. I myself didn't dilate at all until I was in labor. They want your contraction to be only a few minutes apart to consider you to be in active labor if you're dilated that much on a "regular" basis. In the end, it's up to the doctor. The hospital may keep you for a few hours if you are contracting regularly enough and are dilated that far to see if you're progressing at all.

Every 30 minutes isn't really labor. But hey will keep you if you are 4cm dialated or 5 minute contractions.

do you mean you are 5cm dialated? or 1/2cm dialted? because 5cm and contracting, you might want to go in or at least call your doctor.

your going to be in labor I would say within the next 3 days at the most. I was dilated to a 3 when I went to the doctor on the 15th of Feb. On the 16th I went into active labor at about 7 and had my baby on the 17th of Feb. Yay! :)

he should keep you! at 4 cm you could progress quite quickly even if contractions are mild.

happy baby'ing!
