My story is about a 16 year old girl who lives in the Ninth ward and decides to ride out the storm at home while her parents are at the hospital delivering their second child. She didn't think it would be as bad as it was, but when the waters start coming in fast, she's forced to go to the attic and hack her way through the roof to await resuce. After she's picked up by helicopter and brought to the Superdome, she meets a four year old African American girl whose only family has died. She then decides to take care of her as they deal with the torment of living in the Superdome and as they are evactuated to Texas. Once there, they are placed in a shelter, and found by a female volunteer worker who decides to take them home with her to another state. She then has to deal with the lady's husband, who isn't too keen on children and going to a new school where she doesn't feel accepted. All the while, her parents are trying to find her. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful.
