coming from a muggle perspective: I think that if it the wizarding community were revealed, there would be a terrible prejudice against them, stemming from fear - both of their differences, and their power (or supposed power.) The checks and balances J.K. Rowling has on wizarding power in the books would be ignored and misunderstood by the general hysteric public. Likewise, unscrupulous muggles would attempt to subvert the wizard powers for their own ends. I'm thinking of examples like X-Men, where the mutants are terribly feared and ostracized because of their powers.

Amongst the magical community, I would see the same prejudices would appear that are reflected in the books. She's given us a parallel society, that instead of being idealized, contains real-world problems. What's interesting is that her version of racism is the "pure-blood" hatred of wizards born to muggle families. In her community, it seems to cut across muggle ethnic lines - black Slytherin "pure-bloods" (like Blaise Zabini) are more accepted by white "pure-bloods" (like Draco Malfoy) than a white "mud-blood" like Hermione Granger.

I think we'd see prejudice according to wealth (look at how the Malfoys sneer at the Weasleys). We'd also look down on non-human magic species and I think there'd be a very sharp nationalistic divide (like between the British wizards of Hogwarts and the Slavic wizards of Durmstrang.) I also think the wizarding society seems to retain some fairly sexist views of magic and magical accomplishments (despite 2 of the 4 founders being women.)

I also think that anyone with a family member involved in the dark arts (ie; someone who was arrested as a death-eater) would find it very hard to get employment or get their kids into hogwarts 10-15 years down the road, after Voldy is defeated (which I believe will happen in book 7.)

I think many people would be furious that they could not do the things wizards and witches could, they of course would be muggles, .....I would not have to worry, because I would definitely not be a muggle!! nope nope nope.
I don't know that there would be so much prejudice.....more jealously.....but jealously can lead to prejudice.. ....anways....I would be the coolest witch ever! haha......I love Harry Potter. I think that the books are great, and I think children can distinguish the fiction from the real world sorry, just my soap box

it really depends on which side you were on. if you knew about the magic world, but were a muggle, i think we would probably be jealous and we would control and monitor them to figure out a way to have their power.

but if you were on the other side and the above was happening you would probably hate the muggles, just as Voldemort and his followers do.
