Of all the essays written to promote the new constitution, surely the Federalist Papers stand out as the most important in our history.

They were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay as "Publius," their collective pseudonym. The New Yorker ran many of the essays in their paper, in order to publicize the ideals and ramifications behind the Constitution, and address many of the questions and issues that would certainly arise.

Even today, they serve as a primary source for interpreting the Constitution, being cited in many landmark decisions by the Supreme Courts.
