The Sons of Sicily?

I have a Sicillian friend who has a relative that belonged to "The Sons of Sicily". I'm assuming that they are the Italian Mafia.

Is it true or am I just watching too many mob movies?

It's just another ethnic men's society. These kind of societies have been a part of U.S. culture since the great influx of Europeans in the 19th century.
