There are so many fabulous activities you can do, this is such a fun theme!
When we did this for Dr. Seuss Day we set up several different stations for students to rotate through. This was a few years ago, so I don't remember everything, but here are some ideas.
1. Make Ooblek from Bartholomew and the Ooblek. You need plastic sandwich bags, cornstarch (I think) or maybe powdered starch, and water. Food coloring is optional. It feels neat and squishy. There's also a science connection because it's a special type of substance that's not a liquid or solid (but I can't remember the name).
2. We also had a station for taking pictures. A few of the kids who were good at art used a long sheet of paper as tall as they were and drew a Dr. Seuss character on it. Then we cut out the face, and the kids took turns putting their face into the hole while we took pictures. They had fun making faces and seeing themselves as the character. We used a digital camera, but a Polaroid instant would be good, too.
3. Dr. Seuss trivia game. The kids had done some research about Dr. Seuss and we read his books in class. We made up our own questions. Kids can play in teams or individually.
4. We had a creativity center, too. Some kids performed a rap they made up about Dr. Seuss, some performed a skit, some did a read aloud from one of his books.
5. We had a station where kids could make their own Dr. Seuss hat out of construction paper.
6. There was also one to make bookmarks and color Dr. Seuss coloring pages. They can add glitter, accents, anything they want to.
7. You can also make green eggs and ham with food coloring. You can also make candy to look like green eggs and ham. I think we had the kids use Starburst and Skittles. I'm sure there's a recipe somewhere online.
8. Some of the kids made a life size Cat in the Hat and we played pin the hat on the cat except we used tape instead of pins so the kids wouldn't hurt themselves.
9. One of the students dressed up as the cat in a costume his Mom made and he walked around and talked to everyone and took pictures.
10. Choose a favorite story and have the kids make something from it. Or choose a favorite character, like Horton or the Sneetches and have a decorating contest.
11. Write a class story, Dr. Seuss style. Or give each student an opening line, Dr. Seuss style. Give them a few minutes to add on another line or two and then switch papers. They add on to the new paper and keep writing. Read the stories at the end.
12. Make a class or individual acrostic poem about Dr. Seuss, one of his stories or characters.
13. Charades, all related to Dr. Seuss.
14. From One Fish, Two Fish: put swedish fish into a jar. Guess how many are in it. Give the jar to the winner or share with everyone.
15. Create a Dr. Seusslike character. Draw it. Name it. Write a short story/poem about it.
Have a great time with this! There's so much you can do!
