Though some Indians were not subject to the draft during World War II, many served and served well.

Native means " of the place you were born ". You probably mean American Indians. I had few in my unit. They were excellent soldiers and fighters. All who I knew,in my outfit and others were very proud of their uniforms.
Many Navajos were put into special units for communication purposes. Coding and decoding messages takes time, so the Navajos were able to use radio and telephone without code. No foreign nation would have anyone capable of translating Navajo.

First answer is great and correct. Just wanted to add that today Native people still honor their veterans. At Pow-wows (common cultural event) there is always a United States flag and a veteren's song where everyone stands to honor the vets. There is always a color guard which is vets. who bring in the flags.
