PS3 will play games better because 1) It's dedicated for gaming AND 2) the games are programmed for the hardware.

That relationship means the games are going to play better versus current general computing hardware.

PS3 is also cheaper than the equivalent general system. You have to buy high quality components to play games. Sony is losing money per unit hoping to recoup it by selling games (they obtain licensing fees).

The cell processor is a high quality processor as well. It excels as a general processor but it's architecture is different and MS Windows isn't supported and it's not likely it ever will.

By the way, there's a release of Linux called Yellow Dog based on Red Hat. So you could potentially use your PS3 as a simple general computing device. I'm sure with time there will be additional software for that too making it a multimedia device.

Besides the quality of components think of form factor. The PS3 is a lot more attractive in a smaller case than what you can buy (at least for a reasonable price).

PS3 is also a lot more portable than a gaming PC. You can take it to your friend's house, vacation, or wherever a lot easier than a PC.

The Blu-ray DVD player also adds some value. Of course it's not a feature packed Blu-ray device but it does the job.

In summary, PS3 is the better choice if all you care about is playing games.

Potentially... PS3 is a computer itself, with a 3.2-GHz processor and 256-MB video card. If the computer has a faster processor and video card, as any media/gamer system now does, then you technically have a more powerful system.

However, the console has a more intuitive gamepad and a rich selection of games designed specifically for the platform. But this does not necassarily mean it's always better for gaming, for example Real-Time Strategy games (My favorites) are much better suited for keyboard and mouse.

In the end, if you can only get one, the fact that a computer also does so much else would make it my choice.

No, a computer will not play games better than a ps3 because a PS3 has blue ray which allows things to load faster and its has better graphics than a computer could even have.

So i would say the PS3 over the computer

depends what kinda games ? but essentially yes i think a computer will be better since you can upgrade fairly easily

plus you can play old games with emulators, and has more options

flight simulations for example are fun on pc but would have limited buttons on ps3
