I don't know how old you are, but when I was in grade school, Mulatto was used quite frequently in describing a mixed race person. I'm 45, so that was a long time ago!
I want to apologize in advance if I offended anybody, as that was not my intention. I can sometimes be a little naive when it comes to being PC.

Be most careful about using the term 'mulatto,' for some do know its true meaning and may grow very defensive -- and rightly so -- should someone call them this name, others believing it to be a harmless name. It is not...
Why so many such denigrating names were concocted for black and red people in particular is a commentary more on the inferiority complex of white people, not red and black people. Inferiority often champions and masks itself by affecting to superiority behaviors.
It is the old idea and nature of complexes, so typical to the legacy of the United States in particular and Europe in general; that is, to control a thing is to define it and then label it and to propogate affecting characteristics and qualities so as to ensure a precision.
And Voila, you have a supposed truth -- very Napoleonic in implication. One of the most modern of examples of this labeling is this thing got-up in the late 20th Century, which came to be known as "politically correct," which was not the invention or want or intending needed response from people of color...but rather the denial that dwells within the majority of the country, a diversion, one remove of guilt, but a comfortable little insurance policy and mock-up...
Now, the term "mulatto" derives from, quite frankly, a mean-spirited people to describe black slaves -- mules -- with white people who consorted with black people, whether slaves or not, the two of whom becoming intimate, producing a child that was half black, say, 'mule' [ work horse (slave)], and half white [which was to say, human being]. It was but a racist turn on it all that derived from the 18th and 19th Centuries.
So quite honestly the term is offensive in origin, even if today one does not realize its beginnings.
It is very similar to the origin of the word "picnic." That, too, has a very hateful and outrageously infirm origin. But people today would not think that it is... I will not digress on its meaning and origin here...for to know its genesis may take the fun out of life for many...

The word must be "Melengeon". Go to Wikkipedia and look it up. Also Black Dutch, Black Irish, and a lot of other words can fit. It can describe a whole range of bi- and tri-racial and different ethnic groups that are generally darker than the Europeans, much like the American Indians, and other darker peoples who made it to America at various times in America history.

The way you brought up your different races doesnt mean you cant be racist. I am 100% sure there are black people who dont like black people and the same with some whites just because you belong to one race doesnt mean you cant be bias toward a different one

They were saying you were mixed because of your parents' races. This is not really a race but many people see it as a race.
