The idea of college is to get a better paying job than you could get with just a high school degree.

What advantage is there in waiting? To "find yourself"? You can do that while in college. You don't have to pick a major until the end of your second year anyways usually. You actually tend to have more free time than you did in high school.

I think it's because of pressure. It's what everyone does. My oldest daughter went right after high school but took her time with it and is finally graduating this summer at age 24. My other daughter on the other hand has decided to wait a few years before beginning and is working full-time in sales. She says it's her way of figuring out what exactly she wants to do, rather than rushing into it and picking the wrong major. I wish 17 and 18 year olds would just relax and not go to college immediately after high school because it can be stressful for them and they may end up going back to college because they realized they don't like that career/major they picked when they were still practically teens!
Good luck!

Well if you aren't sure(like i am)
i would recommed you ask a councelor because this is what they told me.Since, i have this real passion for modeling but 1/95633 girls make it or whatever, i should go to a community college and save money until i know what i want to major in. There is nothing shaming about it. the american dream is basically having kids, getting a lot of money and having a cat and a dog with the perfect neighborhood and yadiyada.. but c'mon that isn't for all of us. Some of us are rebels and others are just being normal and not following this crazy system. Don't forget that money makes the world go round and with college you have a better chance at helping yourself and the people you love.
take care

Isn't it what is expected of kids today? The opportunity to further our education is greater than it was 10 or 20 years ago. Our parents goal want their children to do better than they did and college seems like the best path. Besides it is proven that college graduates earn more money in their lifetime than people who have not received a college degree.
For kids some want the college experience or to gain more knowledge that will prepare them better for a job. If college is not what you want or a year off seems like a good idea check out gap year options. You could work, travel, intern, or volunteer.

Because if you wait there is bigger chance that you won't go back to school. My boyfriend is going to college four years after he graduated from high school and he is having such a hard time. Don't wait and go to college as soon as possible. Also people go to college immediately because they don't want to be flipping burgers all their lives.

Because so you can get the education right away, you don't want to stay at home, and college is fun. U are out on your own, you are independent and you learn about yourself and others while getting a quality education...
