i dont have an instructions link, but i can tell you step by step:
#1. turn on your phone
#2. enter your phones bluetooth menu and select 'bluetooth search' function
#3. the device name will pop up and tell you the last 7 digits of your vehicles vin number
#4. it will then ask you to enter the 4 digit number in the manual (its on a seperate paper)
and then click enter, and youre set to go.
if you dont have the 4 digit code, the only thing you can do is get it from the dealer you bought it from.

RE:
How do I setup bluetooth for my phone in my 2006 BMW x3?
I have a 2006 BMW x3 and I would like to setup my phone to the cars bluetooth. However, I do not know how to do this. I referred to the manual, but it doesnt have clear instructions so I couldnt get it to work. A step by step list of instructions would be nice.

I own a BMW X3 and don t want to pay anyone else to find the number! If you go into your trunk area, there is a panel on the back left of the vehicle. It is a vertical panel that just pops off. The PK number is located on a white and black information sticker. Use that code and follow the above directions.

It's actually not hard at all.
put your phone in search mode, then turn the ignition to the 2nd click, then the phone will connect, follow the directions on the phone. you'll need the passkey, it should be on a lamenated white slip about the size of a postcard and should be in your owners manual, it's referred to as the pk number.
if you don't have this card, or can't get it working, bring it to the dealer.

Any Bluetooth phone should work. have the person who sells you the phone set it up. And remember the car and the phone have to be in pairing mode.

I had to have the dealer set mine up on my 2006 330 conv. and it was so difficult it literally took the service guys over an hour to get it to interface with my car.

If you can afford a Beemer (*snort*), you can pay someone to do it.
