Well,.I live in Guatemala City wich zone temperature can be like 9 withinn the US hardiness zones. I want to plant this tree and I have to import it or maybe I can obtain it by a member of the plantmessenger yahoo group since I cannot find it here. I have brought many plants from other countries with succesful stories to tell but I am just wondering if this species can grow nice here. We have just the rainy and dry season divided in 6 months each one. The temperature in this city fluctuates from 15 to 28 grades centigrades. So, any information will be appreciated!!

Hello, according to my knowledge and experience in Landscape construction for 25 years. I have planted over 100 Weeping Willows in California I have not have one died on me yet. according to my knowledge Salix Blanda Elegantissma, you are able to plant them in all zones. But they like lot' s of water. They can stand poor conditions. But you say, you have two seasons 6 months of rain and the other dry. I don't think you should have any problems growing them in Guatemala City. Here in the state of California of where I live, Southern part, there is a Nursery called Norman' s Nursery in San Gabriel California. They should have that variety.

The question for you is one of heat tolerance. The reference I found for this tree list it being zone 4 to zone 8. If this were a zone 7 to 9 tree I would say it would grow, but because it has a cold tolerance between -6.7C & -31.7C it may not get cold enough for the plant in Guatemala. I live in central Texas, and there are many plants that don't do well here because it doesn't get cold enough, or conversely it gets too hot. I try to buy plants for zones 6 - 9 to make sure they can handle the temperature spread. If you are in the mountains elevation may allow you to grow some plants that would not grow in the lowlands, but I just don't know enough to say for sure.

Here's a link to the Arbor Society. According to them, weeping willow can be planted in zones 5-8.

You can check pretty much all trees on the Arbor Society website. I use it all the time just to look stuff up.

According to this site:

http://www.fast-growing-trees.com/WeepingWillow.htm

Weeping Willows can be planted in zones 4-9.

We used to live in a 9 zone and had a beautiful weeping willow. We currently live in a 5 zone and they also seem to thrive here, although we don't have one ourselves.

The willow is a trash tree as far as I'm concerned. It drops it's branches each year and makes a mess. It needs lots of water to grow well. I don't particularly like its smell either.
