How about being a preacher? I hear stories of a lot of preachers who are ex-felons.

It depends on how long ago the felony was, and what kind it is. If it's a sexual assault felony it will pretty much stick with you for the rest of your life and you will best at getting blue color jobs, even though you can move up the ladder, you may not make it to management.
If it's another type of felony the fair credit reporting act does not allow employers to take it into consideration after 7 years have passed, so you may need to hold your breath until then.
Now about that English Degree. A BA is a BA is a BA. And an English BA is a well rounded one to have. Consider going into sales or recruiting for smaller companies. Smaller companies are less likely to be too stringent on background checks. Your English degree will give you automatic respect, since in recruiting and sales a lot of clients like to know they are talking to a person who has gone to college, not moved from car sales to what they are doing.
Good luck, you have lots of options. You may try networking with a local church that works with placing felons, there are quite a few out there.

I saw a couple other responses that say the same thing as myself.
The truth is, number one you should definitely seek the Lord first. Why? Well, because Jesus is the only one who TRULY forgives all sin. He forgives and forgets. Once you recieve Him as your savior and believe Him to be the Christ, His blood covers all your sin. The only forgiveness you need is His afterall.
Hard to believe, I know, but that's because we as people just can't comprehend that kind of love. But it's for reals.
So accept Jesus into your life, repent to Him for all sins of the past, with a sincere heart to change. Repent means you truly want to change.
Think about it, Jesus has inherited everything from God, He is basically in control of the universe and all people. Once you gain Jesus' favor upon your life, He will look out for your future.
After that, go out and give different job opportunities a try. Pray and ask Jesus to bless you, to guide you, and watch. The Holy Spirit will guide you into a good job and get your life together with a purpose.

Hate to say it but a convicted felon is a hault to your life. But maybe go back to school and take business courses and see if a new career interest you. But tell your school about the felony situation(they will ask trust me) and see if they will still let you in.

Your best bet might be to be an entrepreneur. You could do freelance writing or editing. You could write a book. You could do just about anything, really. As long as it's legal....;-)

Start by going to church and seek God. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and His will guide your path." Proverbs 3.5-6
