I totally agree with this! I think whoever invented these things chose the most general possible traits to describe people. Example: Some zodiac descriptions might list a good trait as "friendly." Well, who wouldn't desribe themself as friendly? Or a bad trait: "jealousy." Everyone can admit to being jealous at least a few times in their life.
Also, another flaw in the horoscope/zodiac/fortune telling ideas: how broad they are! For example, the Chinese zodiac, where people who are born in a certain year, such as Year of the Rat, all have similar personality traits. How crazy is that? Apparently EVERY SINGLE PERSON born in that year has EXACTLY the same personality? Right. And as for weekly horoscopes- every single person born in the same month and you will have the exact same things happen to them that week? Oh, come on.
And when it comes to fortune telling, I agree that they are mostly self-fulfilling prophecies. Let's say you are walking down the street and you bump into a guy. Most likely, you say excuse me and keep walking. However, let's say you just went to a fortune teller and she said "You will meet a handsome stranger in a most unusual way." You will think "Oh my gosh! This is my handsome stranger!" and start a conversation, thus fulfilling her "prediction."
However, one area of fortune telling that I am less skeptical about is palmistry. I am personally very interested in mystical things, whether they are true or not, and I have read several books about palmistry. When applying these facts to myself, I have honestly been freaked out by how accurate the things are. So of course I had to try it out on other people- all of whom I think were accurately described. (Except for one book... it was more child-oriented and kind of stupid...) Since palmistry doesn't apply huge general rules to all kinds of people, I think it is a bit more credible. Everyone has different hands, and everyone has a different personality. Also, the good books don't claim you can see the future through your palm, just your personality. Normally I'd be like "Yeah, right" but, like I said, it was freakishly accurate.

a little clarification is in order
never getting past your sun sign is like never getting past kindergarten.
get your natal chart done, there are free sites online that you use, buy a couple of beginning interpretation books, then you will know that astrology has much validity.
Most of the uninitiated think that our horoscopes are some sort of script to which we are supposed to walk in lockstep.
Freeway and individual personalities will ALWAYS take precedent over our charts.

Well, I'm a pisces and they say they are shy and reserved. I'm just like that. I think some won't fit the qualites/characteristics of the sign they fall under and some, like me, might. I don't pay attention to the whole predictions....I know better. Like, they say I'm great with a scorpio...that hasn't happend yet, not like I care.
But yeah, don't base your life on it..just be like some people at my school and rep your sign..haha..
