Historians have declaired that Benjamin Franklin invented the moonwalk not Michelle Jackson as was once thought. What they say is that Franklin, back in the mid 1700s was standing around with some delagates waiting for a meeting to start when he started too "show off to them" by doing a trick where he looked like he was walking foreward but actually was moveing backwards. This lightened the mood for the sucessfull meeting of the delegates and many other people tried it but he was the only one who could do it. John Locke actually wrote in 1772 , "This man who has been a substancial leader of democracy, has awed us with his brilliant mind boggeling backwards walk." So I guess Jackson didnt really invent the moon walk.

I never heard of that one but I do recall listening to some old timers talking on TV about the 1930s where a 2-brother tap dancing act used to also do acrobatics and one of their "steps" was walking forward while moving backwards, and I also personally recall some kids that performed at a summer program I worked at well before Michael Jackson's "Moon Walk" (he was still part of the Jackson Five) and the kids were doing the same "Moon Walk" AND also doing another "step" where they seemed to be moving sideways, too!

So, Michael Jackson did NOT invent the step, sorry... and he's never taken credit for "inventing" it, either.

I never heard that one about Ben Franklin, although he was also known as quite a dancer in his day, and as a lady's man (had a hoard of illegitimate children, including one that became Governor in NJ and was his worst shame, a Tory and a Brit sympathizer, who moved to England after the Revolutionary War...).
