I just think the show would be a better product if the contestants were true amateurs. New rule: if you have been paid to sing in the past, you are ineligible for the contest. Americans would be better able to identify with the contestants if that were the case. I would.

Well, a lot of your question is debatable. Depends what you consider an amature. American Idol views amature as anyone without a current recording contract. This is the first year they have had 2 background singers on the show. I am guessing this is what you are refferring to. I really don't have a problem with them being included in the show. Sure, there are better stories for those who have came out of nowhere to win the show. But, these background singers have never had a chance to get their own label, just as the rest of the contestants. I am okay with the way the show is now!

1st off the damn show is such bullshit because u can vote but it doesn't really mean anything...i don't believe the votes are actually worth anything...but u r right it should only be amateurs
