In plant reproduction is the sporophyte stage diploid or haploid?!

Sporophytes have to be diploid.

Tracing backward:
The sporophyte alternates with the gametophyte.
The gametophyte reproduces with gametes.
Gametes join with other gametes, so the next generation has to be diploid.

they are diploid because they are formed by a male gamete and a female gamete. sporophytes produce spores which develop into gametophytes, which are haploid. The gametophytes produce male or female gametes and those combine to form zygotes, which turn into sporophytes, and so the cycle goes on and on and so on.
