Firstly, majority (like 95%) of the actors enployed by the Screen Actors Guild aren't making a living as actors, but that doesn't mean that they don't have careers as actors or they're not successful. Because Hollywood actors get millions for their flicks we automatically assume that money equals success, but many actors don't consider this to be true. Dan already has a career as Harry Potter on films, which he's already signed on to do all of them. Judging by the reviews he's receiving from "Equus", he definitely has a career on stage. While theatre careers usually don't bring much recognition, majority of the world's most talented actors perform only on stage or small films and majority of the very famous in Hollywood can't genuinely act.
He will always have a career as long as he can take risks and act well. People who know about acting respect him more for his choice to play a three dimensional character on stage when it would've been easier for him to stay in simpler roles.

Taking the role in "Equus" was a very good move for Radcliffe. He's always wanted to be a serious actor, even in his earliest roles. He'll always be known for playing Harry, but he has an entire career to think of. The role of the young, psychologically tortured teen in "Equus" is a challenging one, and there are several excellent scenes between his character and the character of the psychiatrist who's treating him, that allow him to show a full range of emotions and physical acting. The scene(s) in which he's naked are vital to the play, and to the understanding of his character' s psychosis. He should do very well.

i'm highly satisfied to study the smart responses on your question. From different press and statement on the production, you would imagine Daniel Radcliffe had taken up a occupation as a stripper, somewhat than what he's fairly doing - leaping on the prospect to play various one position in a extreme high quality production of an award-triumphing play. that is appearing. he's competently previous to legally play the section, and the production is going up this year, no longer in 2 yrs at the same time as he's nineteen and each of the harry Potter videos are contained in the can. He'd be stupid to exhibit down this chance - it truly is a plum position for a youthful actor. i might want to imagine he fairly had to play the section only for himself, no longer for the large occupation-replacing photo or inspite of. maximum actors want a section like that - enormous, heavy, dramatic, extreme, loopy.

I think that Daniel Radcliffe starred in the play, "Equus", to move onto something else for a change. I mean, he likes being Harry and stuff, but maybe he wanted to try something new. ... or maybe he's in it for the money...

I think Harry Potter destroyed anything else he wants to do with his career because he will always be looked at as the young innocent Harry. He needs to grow up and do somethin else.

It depends on if he wants to continue to be considered for child like roles. He decided to break out for his career and I think it was a smart business move for him.

omg he is naked! god forbid...yeah, he is naked in a play but all the parents are up in arms about it. YOUR KIDS ARENT GOING TO SEE THE PLAY ARE THEY? he isnt going to be harry potter for the rest of his life. besides, he is doing it in england, 16 is the age of consent for things like that, so why are american parents getting up in arms over something that is perfectly legal there, and their kids arent ever going to see? if his career ends over this then wow the public needs to get something else to freak out about.

i think that it was a really smart move of him. i think that he wanted people to stop treating him like a young 'wizard kid' and so he made a risky choice which could boost or destroy his career. all in all it was his choice, and its his career.
