There are so many examples it's hard to know where to begin.
Mexico had foreign (and native) emperors (and other leaders) that shipped their natural resources back to Spain and Napoleanic Spain. Because these leaders didn't have Mexico's interests at heart, the populace was repressed and the resulting revolutions thew the place in chaos for most of the 1800's (and one could argue till today).
Bolivia had huge deposits of tin taken at bargin basement prices the same way. Recently, this caused a mini rebellion when the government tried to sell recently discovered natural gas to the USA (because the populace assumed that the US was trying to take advantage like we had before).
Basically, Imperialism (and colonialism) retards the growth of a middle class, which stalls democratic growth, and delays the development of industry.

~Mexico didn't think too much of losing Texas, Arizona California and New Mexico. Columbia was more than a little chagrined over Panama. The Bay of Pigs put missiles in Cuba and Castro's refusal to capitulate has resulted in the starvation and impoverishment of hundreds of thousands of Cubans. Economic imperialism is killing the Amazon and the rainforest.

examples: What do you mean??? the whole continent is an example. Spain and Portugal pretty much took all of the gold and emeralds, coffee vanilla , anything you can think of back in the 1400's , 1500's and 1600's. The Pope gave them a lock on South America. Is there any gold left for thge people of pARAGUAY, Uraguay, Argentina, Colombia????or anywhere else , NOT. So that shows you what happens when the pope splits up the world and takes his share.
