I hate the music at work and want something small I can carry and listen to my own music. I don't own a Mac computer and I don't want to have to pay for all my music a second time from an itunes-like company. I'd be perfectly happy if there was something not too expensive or big that could hold at least a couple of hundred songs off cds I already own. Is there anything like that out there? All I keep finding are big expensive fancy things or cheap little things that only mention you can download music off the internet. Can anyone please help?

Choose a flash drive MP3 player.

A 1GB unit should suit you just fine. You can use a free program called CDEX to rip your CD's into MP3's that can be transferred to your MP3 player. That is what I am doing.

Here is a link that shows you some flash MP3 players....

ps ... most of the cheap little things can also be used, you do not have to download off the internet to use them.

You can try mp3 players made by Creative Zen, they tend to be cheaper than ipods and have the same if not more functions.

Or you can buy a PDA or smartphone that has a built in media player and a memory card slot. Then, you can transfer the songs onto a memory card, insert it, and play the songs. They sell 2GB memory cards for around $20.

Or, if you or a friend is going to China sometimes soon, get one there, they will be cooler and cheaper than ALL of the ones sold in the US.

Why not use a normal CD player? as you said you have alot of CD's you already own so you might as well use them.If you dont want to use a CD player maybe you could use those little AM/FM radios because you could switch music.
