Given the rift between the left and right in this country, if somehow the United States were able to become 2 countries, the conservative US and the liberal US. Which one would you live in?

Omitting peoples' individual stances on political issues, but rather focusing on the popular beliefs of both the left and the right;

Conservative stances - strong borders, strong national security, pro 2nd Ammend., less government intrusion, low taxes, smaller government overall, and basically let the free market do what it's going to do (in general).

Liberal stances - Inclusivity, gun control, universal healthcare, social welfare programs, universal education, politcal correctness, level playing field, tax and regulation, and overall bigger and more involved government (in general).

If these individual countries were built based on the ideas stated above, how do you think these countries would be, both short term and long term. And what about the mindset of its citizens.

Forget about who would get the East or West Coasts, or which states or cities. That isn't what the question asks. FOCUS ON THE QUESTION> FOCUS>FOCUS>FOCUS

I said nothing about "Republican or Democrat" There are only 2 categories here "conservative and liberal". If you are left of center, you are liberal. If you are right of center, you are conservative. (In this case)

I'll let the voters vote on which is the best answer, but for the record: NO ONE REALLY ANSWERED THE QUESTION I was asking. Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

I can tell a republican a mile off. I think you're right - you guys should leave this country to us and I don't care which country you go to.

Basically that is what we have now, with the blue states and the red states, what people are forgetting is we are the United States. What is needed is compromise, no side is right on ever aspect of every issue but the divide that we have is holding this country back. Compromised legislation to take the corners off would benefit all. Not just some. I also think that most of your stereo types are not true. Just look at the expansion of government in the last 6 years, the spending spree that congress and the president has been on to dispel that, and I as a liberal democrat own guns and intend to keep them. U.H.C is something that should be embraced by both parties. Social welfare programs were overhauled during the Clinton presidency. Ever hear of welfare to work. It is working and as a matter of fact there are less people on welfare then ever before since its inception. 2 years and you are off of it. 4 years lifetime. So you can not pin any issue on just one party. Many Repuglicans are pro choice and many democrats are anti-abortion.

I think I have a better idea -

The Independent party could bridge the major gap between right and left.

As a conservative, I don't buy many things the Repub. party stands for and that I have been accused of.

I believe all Democrats are not built the same either.

People shouldn't have to have one platform to adhere to either.

I would not be surprised if someone came in to run as an Independent. However, special interest groups probably won't finance a candidate that won't get them favors.

I would also prefer less government to more government, so if there really could be a Conservative America without being a Republican American, then I'd live in the Conservative America. In my mind the Republicans and Democrats have it all wrong. Both want more government, more intrusion, more taxes, less freedom for regular Americans. Democrats do it in the name of "Helping People" and Republicans do it in the name of "Protecting People."

We don't need their help and we don't need their protection!

I think it makes sense that the conservative nation would destroy itself, as what can be shown by six years of GWB. 8 yrs of Clinton brought economic prosperity, a balanced budget, and a strong sense of pride for all people, despite the conservative attempts to destroy him. And he's not even a liberal. GWB is a conservative and they had their chance, causing nothing but trouble. Their system does NOT work.

Sorry, if you're going to make the US into two countries--why not make it three? I wouldn't want to live in a totally liberal or totally conservative nation. I'd want to live where Ralph Nadar and company called home...

Conservative US would be my choice. The conservative would outlast the liberals. the liberals would go broke, have a bad economy, just as most socialist countries face.

well... the Christian conservatives would hijack the conservative U.S.... and you really couldn't stop them without any liberals... if you tried they would just kick you out of the nation... and pretty much from there... it would all go down hill...

so I'll take the liberal one... I perfer to worship where and how I want... and not have to worry about a theocratic ruler...

Who would pay for the libs social programs if the conservatives had their own state?

The libs nation would implode like all socialist/communist governments evenually do.

The conservative nation would be prosperous.
