I am unaware of what it originally used, but MOST auto ac systems from 1990 on up can be retrofitted to r134a. The fittings need to be changed it it needs to be evacuated real well. It also would be a good idea to fix the cause for needing a recharge

you cant mix them.you have to have the r-12 removed and r-134a put in.

PROBABLY R-12. tHERE SHOULD BE A STICKER UNDER THE HOOD THAT SAYS. NO THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE
