what is the whole deal with what's been going on behind the scenes of grey's anatomy and isaiah washington?

Isaiah used a gay slur calling T.R. (George) a not nice word for homosexual that begins with an f. He said that during a fight between Isaiah and Patrick. According to an article I read Isaiah pinned Patrick against the wall by his throat. The guy who plays the chief stepped in and stopped the fight. (That was according to what the cast said on Oprah) People were mad but it seemed like everything was going to cool down till at the golden globes in a press statement after the cast won an award he said into the microphone that he did not call T.R. a (same innapropriate gay slur). This is what fired up all the controversy. People were writing ABC to try to get him fired. To help save his image he then checked himself into rehab and after a short time , I believe it was 10-13 days (not sure on the number) he returned to the filming of the show.
