I am a junior at a college in Ohio majoring in English: Language Arts to be a high school English teacher and I was wondering what type of salary I would be getting once I graduate and get a job. Granted, I know I will not be rich, but I want to know ahead of time on whether or not I can live happily and afford things for myself and family (if I get married). Also, I would like to get a Master's degree before I actually teach so I have an "edge" on competition. How much of a salary bump does a Master's degree give you?

hm, possibly from 25k-35k... anymore than that, you might as well become as a principal. It all varies on the level that you succeeded in teacher's college...

getting a masters will do nothing unless youre aiming to be a professor. you should attend to teacher's college and there they have levels.. like 1-5.. the fifth level is the highest and the best which may result you in a higher pay.. but as an entry level... you won't be looking at a 40-50k salary... entry levels are always low... just work yerself up in a couple of years so then yer salary will rise due to experience and stuff-----

It honestly depends on what area of the country you are applying for work. Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Schools are desperate for teachers and they are paying extrodinary amounts for well qualified newcomers.

Where are you seeking employment? It varies state to state and city to city. Peace. --De

...Ok - I checked with my sister - for someone with only a Bachelor's Degree - the starting salary at Dallas Independant School System is $45K + a year. If you are bilingual (English/Spanish) the pay rate begins even higher. If you come with a Master's Degree - as she did - the pay rate begins much higher.

Seek out the School Districts that interest you - and ask them what they pay. Peace.
