To "spoon" you usually refers to the act of cuddling up behind someone in a sleeping position. Both people are laying on their side (pick 1), usually the guy is behind the girl with his arm draped across her hips and your bodies are not entwined but touching. It's like forming an "s" shape with both people.

Spooning isn't necessarily sexual, but it is very intimate. It is when two people lie in bed on their sides with one person's stomach pressed up against the other persons back (in other words, they're facing the same direction). Both person's legs are bent, and again pressed up against eachother.
It's called spooning because it looks like two spoons nestled together.
