he got traded because he wanted 5.7 million per year and the oilers only offered him 5.4 million per year. a lousy $300,000 and the oilers give him the boot. i wonder how much control smyth had in the negotiations, smith grew up near edmonton and played for the oilers 12 years he was upset he got traded is all

Ryan Smyth Crying

He was forced out of a team that he helped lead to a Stanley Cup final. He probably saw himself staying with the Oilers for a long time. It probably would be like Steve Yzerman, if (hypothetically) after the 1995 playoff run he got traded to the Panthers.

In Canada, Ryan Smyth is practically God...he'll move to NY now, where half the city won't be able to tell you what sport the guy plays...canada is much more passionate about hockey, and many canadians are stunned that the oilers let go of another great player (see gretzky, messier...)

cause he's played 12 years with the oilers and cause he was taken by surprise. he didn't think the oilers would trade him even if they couldn't get a contract signed. and he believes he can lead the oilers to another miracle like last year.

Just because the team he was on isnt in a play -off spot doesnt mean anything! He's been with edmonton for a while and i bet its like a 2nd family to him. He's probably gotten attached to the people and the fans there. It's hard to leave a team u've been with so long, i feel sorry that he has to leave them.

Sometimes a teams playoff position means nothing to a player who loves being with that team

Because he's been with Edmonton for so long and he's attached. Leaving the team is a pretty big thing. I mean who wouldn't cry?

i think he's crying because he thought he'd be with the oilers forever. or maybe he was crying because he was overwhelmed thinking about all that money he's gonna make once his present contract is over.
