I asked this question earlier. Due to the comical and sarcastic answers I received I realized that maybe I should have been more specific. I am a registered nurese with over a decade of eperience. It is obvious that you cannot obtain a degree in medicine without clnical training. So more specifically, does anyone know of a program that offers lectures and/or text based work online with clinics and labs done on campus or at a nearby facility? Please do not answer with regrets, only if you have information about a program, thanks.

Hehe, I saw the first question. The reason you got such responses is because there are a LOT of people who think you can get a medical degree without clinical practice.

Now that you're more specific, many med schools are starting to have online lectures. Take a look at UC San Francisco, one of the top med schools in the US. Look into their iRocket program.

Still, I'm not quite sure what your deal is with the online. If it's so you can stay home and keep an eye on kids while you do lectures, that's one thing. If it's so you can work while also attending med school (at least until the clinical stuff), then that's not such a good idea.

Well that's a better way to phrase your question. It sounded a bit ridiculous before, so i'm glad you clarified. In that case, I do have a real answer for you. My brother is a 3rd year in med school at the moment. During his first two years, he didn't go to lecture at all, only to take exams. Basically, they give you all the material (astounding amount) you need to know for the exam in a binder, and you are supposed to know it by exam time. He only showed up for exams (with the exception of anatomy and his micro class, and other lab courses). That being said, you really need to do medical school AT the medical school campus..lectures and all. I don't know what your big draw is to doing things online, but medical school is something you really must go and do. Sure my brother studied off campus and didn't go to lecture, but he STUDIED during the time he could have been in lecture. Some programs have an attendance policy, but you will want to check with the individual program. It's a bigger time committment than most people think. It literally takes ALL of your time (and money). Also take into account 3rd and 4th year rotations--you will be on call several hours a week. I don't know where you live or where you want to live, so I can't really give you a program.
