No forms of birth control. Plus the world was not so over-populated and it was thought sensible to carry on the family name. Most of the time a couple of the kids died before their twenty's due to untreatable diseases, so they had a bunch to ensure that a couple would live.

They lived off of their land. They needed alot of kids if they had alot of land.
My mom has 12 siblings. They all helped with chores and the gardening and the cattle and other livestock. It was a part of life.
She said it took all of them to make sure things rans smoothly and that the farm was run efficiently.

Three reasons: There was no birth control, the mortality rate for children was high and they needed as many hands as possible to work the land to try to eck out a living.

Which day are you reffering to? Do you mean why did women have multiple births?

At the beginning stages of fertility treatments, women were less likely to undergo selective reduction. Now insurance companys and doctors do not want women to carry more than 2 at a time.

People back in the day liked to get down and dirty. Plus they may of needed to have more help on the farm. Also they may get cold and snoogle up together and then get down and dirty to get warm

many people had farms back then and you couldnt work on a farm yourslef so they used their children to hep out
