Because everyone has seen them as migrant farm workers picking strawberries from dawn until dusk. And we all know that they are not making $20 an hour picking strawberries!!
As far as them being honest, honest people work for a living, rather than lying, begging, borrowing, and stealing to get by or make ends meet.
The bottom line is, there are good and bad in every race.

Because they are. There is a different appreciation for a job in the Latin countries. If you do not work hard you loose your job, there are several people waiting in line for your job (even the ones considered the worst ones in the US). It may take them forever to find a new one. You can not go and ask the government to feed you while you don´t have a job, you just starve. In the US many people have the privilege of asking the government for support while they are unemployed, they are really lucky!!. In Latin America you can have a Masters or PH degree and have to drive a cab to bring some food home. In the US several people complain when they work after 5pm, one minute and they want to be payed overtime, lucky you guys!! in Latin America you work 8am to10pm and feel blessed you have a job, no complains. In the US if you get fired you can go to court, in Latin America you get fired and complain to heaven, it would very hard if not impossible to win a case like this even if you are a real victim.
Also in Latin America there are no things like credits or loans, they exist but they are extremely expensive therefore if you don´t have a job and you have to pay ALL your bills cash, you better do your best to keep the job you have.
As I said before, there is a different value that Latins give to work because it is so hard to keep one or find a good one in their own countries.
I hope the few racists that exists in the US open their eyes one day and appreciate how a noble community like the Latins can do to their country, because they are in most of the cases, willing to give the US their best of their productive lives no matter how rejected they are. There are a lot of facts that prove that Latins as well as other immigrant communities have contributed the US flourish in a very favorable manner over the years.

It's not just latinos. It's anyone who was born with little and had to work hard for what they got. I am white and I grew up poor in an Asian country and i'm the same way. I work hard and try my best to be honest in all I do. This is a direct result of how I was raised. I was raised with nothing handed to me free--everything was worked for and that's why i'm the way I am.

A lot of "latinos" that I know who are hard working are like that, I believe, because perhaps they've come from a life that forced them to work hard to get what they want. But I also know plenty of latinos that have lived a life of "free money" like a lot of Americans. it's all about where you came from and what you were taught. A lot of latinos were taught that they ahve to work really hard to get ahead in life. And that is something that is true for all people.

I've worked with Mexicans all my life. Same as everyone else. Some good, some bad. But once my parents tipped the landscapers a $100, and they thought it was a mistake so they brought it back. Older Mexican cats who have life experience are the best co workers I ever had

Don't generalize. Not all Latinos (or Hispanics for that matter) are lazy. My father passed on when I was very young and my mother worked two jobs to support my sister and I. And in turn, she taught me to fend for myself and not depend on government handouts. Currently, I'm a phlebotomist going to school to become a registered pediatric nurse. I work hard for what I have, and will continue to do so. If you haven't met a hardworking Latina, my name is Tina, nice to meet you. Now you know one....

Liberal propaganda so they can continue pumping them into the US. The excuse that we need them for agriculture is pretty startling - California is ALREADY over 50% Mexican (who the hell knows how many are legal) and they keep on saying we STILL need more? Must California become 98% Mexican for us to have a healthy agricultural life?

I think the illegals (and legals), when they do farmwork, are only doing it because they'd get kicked out of the country if they didn't. (as much as the liberals say otherwise). How's that for "racism"? Using a people for slavery like that. Tsh Tsh.

In my experience as a manager in the food service and hospitality industries in Arizona, I have found this to be generally true.

If I spoke Spanish, I would love to have a crew full of Mexicans. They show up on time, rarely call in "sick", work hard and take pride in their work.

They don't "always" say that, and obviously there are many (as there are in ANY group of people) that are neither.

But for what it's worth, I know and have known many (I live in Southern California) and that is a fair description of most I have known.

I have seen both it just like not all black males are in jail, selling drugs and or generally set around doing nothing. Stereotypes are just not good describers of life.
