When you dream of dying it just means that the 'old you' needs to die in order to make room for the 'new you'. This may mean letting go of bad habbits, attitudes or beliefs. It's a positive dream and signifies growth.
You said that you "had" to drown yourself which means you know what you need to get rid of. And the "sacrifice" simply means that you are giving up what you once valued for something of more importance. It's all good.

I heard that if you saw your own death it means you will live a long and good life. But if you drown it means in reality to resist to a natural course of events thereof to tear health and to truncate a life. Anyway, dreams are personal thing and probably in your life a lot of events going on, no one can really tell you what it could mean because you know yourself better than anyone else, so listen to your intuition and think of events that bother you right now.
