Confident is an adjective meaning "full of confidence."
Johnny was confident he was going to make the shot because he had been practicing a lot.
Confidant is a noun meaning "a person to confide in." Like someone you can tell things to.
Johnny was his brother's confidant when he shot that guy and buried him in the backyard. He knew he would never tell a soul.
