From a handgun usually around 600 to 900 feet per second.
Thats 408 to 612 miles per hour.

A small rifle can be around 1100 to 2200 feet per second
748 to 1496 mph

A large rifle can be up to around 3800 feet per second.
2584 mph

A .50 sniper rifle (THE big one) can be up to 4800 feet per second with special ammunition.

It all depends on the type of gun, is it a rifle or a handgun, the size and caliber of the bullet, and the type and quantity of gunpowder used in the shell casing. If you want an accurate answer you have to be more specific. Some bullets out of sniper rifles travel at supersonic speeds, re: breaking the speed of sound

It depends on the gun. Rifles are fastest, about 1500 ft/second.
Handguns are slower, about 1000 feet/second.
The speed of sound is about 700 feet/second, so when you get shot by a gun you feel the bullet hit you before you hear the shot.
Kennedy never heard the shot that killed him.

It depends what caliber & grain (weight) of bullet. There are also different velocities such as: muzzle velocity and flight. The speed of the bullet is greater as it leaves the muzzle (end of barrel). If you buy a box of bullets it says it all on the box. Example: a .17HMR caliber rimfire round (17 grain bullet) travels over 4,000 feet per second (fps).

Too many variables. A shot gun is slow, a rifle can be 400 MPH or 800 MPH same as a pistol. You need to know the shot weight the powder charge and the compression.

Good question. Now go learn the big words. They help.

Generally speaking handgun bullets from 800 to 1300 feet per second (f.p.s.) , rifle bullets 2200 to 2800 f.p.s. , small caliber and large shell casing (i.e. .220 Swift) 4100f.p.s. Remember these are generalizations, there are calibers that will fill in all the gaps between the velocities I've given.

There is no set speed for a bullet. It depends on the grain of bullet, its shape, weight and velocity. Believe me, i like guns.

it depends on the grain of the bullet and the amount of powder
The M16A2 is a 5.56mm or .223 shooting a 180 grain bullet muzzle velocity is 975 m/s (3,200 ft/s),
Effective range 550 m (600 yd)
