I have a 2005 Buick Lacrosse I bought used with only 5,500 miles on it. I noticed under the hood that all the spark plug wires have a single purple chark mark on them. The car runs great, but I was curious if anyone knows what these markings are.

I've seen restoration enthusiasts debate the meaning of such chalk marks and try to figure out how to put them back on a restored car to match what the factory was doing, but often it's hard to find real answers. All that is known for sure is that they are there to help the workers put the car together, but the actual significance is often something of a mystery. They may mean that this was a certain batch of wires made on a certain day, or that these wires belonged on an engine with purple chalk on the valve covers, or... well, it's hard to guess exactly what, but they only really mean something inside the factory.

Are the markings numbers? Maybe someone was just marking the order they go in when installing them. Pretty low mileage to be changing wires though...hmm.
