Okay, when I do sports like soccer or basketball my calf muscles seem to just tense up to an extreme and takes about a minute to get them relaxed again. The muscles just like contract as much as they can and leaves me unable to move my ankle up and down. Sometimes it really hurts when this happens.

It normally happens in basketball when im doing a shot, I bend my knees and then it just happens. Same as in soccer, when im trying to get by a guy and do a fake quickly one way they tense up.

Does anyone know what this is? Is it actually just a muscle spasm?

I'd check out the no sweating thing (not normal), but it does sound like an imbalance of electrolytes which causes muscle spasms or muscle fatigue from oxygen debt- the fact that you don't sweat means you are unable to cool your body effectively which could be causing the muscle spasms!? Very puzzling-see a DR.

Are you hydrating with a good electrolyte supplement? The cramps you're getting sounds like a potassium/sodium imbalance. If you're sweating alot and not maintaining adequate hydration, that would cause the cramping.

You are cramping perhaps from a lack of electrolytes. Drink some Gatorade before you play. That may help.
